WICHITA, Kan. (KWCH) - Today is the proverbial calm before the storm. Wake-up temperatures in the teens and 20s will only climb a few degrees into the lower 30s underneath mainly cloudy skies. Expect snow to start falling across northwest Kansas this evening before rapidly overspreading the state tonight. The heaviest snow will fall during the Wednesday morning commute making travel to work and/or school difficult. While the wind will not be a major concern, some blowing/drifting snow is expected. The heaviest snowfall will be along and north of I-70 where 6-10″ of accumulation is likely. In between I-70 and highway 400 we are expecting between three and six inches of snowfall while areas farther south will see an inch or two of accumulation. After a sunny but very cold Thursday with highs in the 20s, a mini warm-up arrives on Friday as climb into the 30s and 40s. However, colder weather and snow chances quickly come back to Kansas this weekend. Today: Cloudy and cold. Wind: NE 15-25; gusty. High: 32. Tonight: Cloudy with snow after midnight.
