Jedd Fisch is promoting one assistant and hiring a former Pac-10 standout, sources tell FootballScoop.

Washington head coach Jedd Fisch is making one promotion and one hire to help account for losing defensive coordinator Steve Belichick and one off-field staffer to North Carolina .

Sources tell FootballScoop that Fisch is promoting cornerbacks John Richardson to secondary coach, and hiring Taylor Mays as assistant defensive backs coach. Mays will work with the safeties.

Richardson has been with Fisch for the past two seasons, following him from Arizona after coaching corners for the Wildcats in 2023. A Compton, Calif., native, Richardson played at North Dakota State and started his coaching career as a student assistant for the Bison in 2009. He rose to cornerbacks coach by 2012, and later coached corners for Wyoming and Washington State before joining Arizona.

At Wazzu, Richardson spent 2021-22 as assistant head coach and recruiting coordinator in addition to cornerbacks coach.

Mays is a former 5-star recruit who played for USC from 2006-09 and played professionally in the NFL and CFL from 2010-17. He spent the past three seasons as an analyst for the Trojans. CBS Sports first reported the news of Mays's hire.
