OCEAN CITY, Md. – In anticipation of the upcoming Cruisin’ Ocean City event next week, the town will put a special event zone in place.

The goal is to cut down on reckless driving.

That will start Tuesday April 29th and will run through Sunday May 4th.

Drivers can expect speed limits reduced to 30 miles per hour on the main roads through town.

Similar to a construction zone, speeding fines will also be increased and offenders may even face arrest for reckless driving.

Police say fines could reach up to $1,000 depending on the offense.

“We’re really looking at the special event zone to create that safe environment where everybody can check out the cars, but you’re not worried about having an unnecessary collision because of reckless behavior,” said Ashley Miller with the Ocean City Police Department.

Police urge all spectators to keeps sidewalks clear for others and to avoid encouraging drivers to perform “burnouts.”
