It turns out J. Jonah Jameson may have been right about Spider-Man all along after the web-slinger was caught stealing Pokemon cards in broad daylight.
Pokemon card crimes have become increasingly common in recent years with elaborate heists taking place at game stores. We’ve seen thieves
crashing cars into buildings and
tunneling into stores to gain access to those collectible cards, but one man opted for a wildly different strategy. On March 16, a man dressed as Spider-Man walked into Gaming Giant in Fairfax, Virginia and stole $10,000 in Pokemon, Dragon Ball, and other cards.
Spider-Man’s identity revealed after stealing Pokemon cards
According to the owner of Gaming Giant, prior to dressing as Spider-Man, 20-year-old Joel Brown walked into the store and began to
case the establishment . After inquiring about some specific cards, he returned on Friday night while in a full Spider-Man outfit. The suspect allegedly broke the front door down and took $10,000 in Pokemon, One Piece and Dragon Ball cards. “We are devastated to say that on Friday night, after closing, our store was broken into and robbed,” Gaming Giant said on
Facebook . “Our front door was broken down and the culprit was wearing a masked Spiderman hoodie, taking numerous graded slabs as well as sealed Pokemon product.” The store shared numerous photos of the suspect and, once the police received tips, they identified the suspect as Brown on March 19 and
charged the 20-year-old with burglary . He was transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center and was released on an unsecured bond. The police ask anyone with additional information to contact them. This isn’t the first time someone dressed as Spider-Man has caused controversy. In 2023, a
street fight between Mario, Spider-Man, Black Panther , and others went viral on social media after a dispute between costumed employees at a tourist attraction in Brazil.
