A Florida-based low-cost carrier is providing people in the Bluff City a chance to catch a flight to the Big Easy during Mardi Gras season. Spirit Airlines announced Monday that it plans to offer seasonal nonstop service between Memphis International Airport (MEM) and Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport (MSY) during the Mardi Gras travel period next year. The flight will operate daily from Feb. 20 through March 9. “We’re excited to see Spirit offer nonstop service to the great city of New Orleans for the Mardi Gras season,” Michael Keeney, chairman of the Memphis-Shelby County Airport Authority Board of Commissioners, said in a news release. “This gives our passengers a low cost and convenient alternative to driving.” The airline will operate a 182-seat Airbus 320 aircraft for the MEM-MSY service. “We know Memphis travelers want convenient and affordable flights to popular leisure destinations, and our new seasonal service makes it easier to visit the Big Easy for Mardi Gras this spring,” John Kirby, Spirit Airlines' Vice President of Network Planning, said in a news release. “Our Memphis guests can also enjoy our newly enhanced guest experience and new travel options that range from premium to economical.” MEMPHIS INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT: Memphis airport renovation aims to upgrade travelers' experience.
