Planning to catch some fireworks shows on
Fourth of July ? Scratch Springfield’s
Light of Liberty Celebration off the list, as the event has been canceled in 2025.
Why is Springfield’s Light of Liberty Celebration canceled?
The event, hosted by the
Springfield Utility Board , was canceled after the city of Springfield, Springfield Public Schools and Willamalane Park and Recreation District discussed its feasibility. Ultimately, construction projects in the area of Island Park led the organizers to conclude the event would be unsafe and impractical to host in 2025. Meredith Clark, SUB’s community relations manager, said keeping the community safe is SUB’s No. 1 priority. “After discussion, we concluded that Mill Street construction doesn’t allow for safe, practical access to Island Park,” Clark said in a press release.
Construction on Mill Street is replacing the existing pavement, upgrading stormwater and sewer infrastructure, building new sidewalks, adding bike lanes and installing new street lights. While construction is ongoing, travelers can expect to encounter 24/7 single-lane closures, limited pedestrian crossings and shifted and restricted traffic to one-way, northbound travel between Mill Street and Centennial Boulevard. Construction began in the summer of 2024 and is expected to continue through the summer of 2025.
Where can I see a Fourth of July fireworks show in Lane County?
SUB General Manager Jeff Nelson said 2025's celebration will be missed. “We’ll miss hosting the celebration this year, but our focus has always been on creating meaningful ways for the community to come together,” Nelson said in a press release. “That’s why Team Springfield is working together to support an evening of all-American fun by providing discount tickets to the Springfield Drifters July 3 game and fireworks show.”
Am I allowed to set off fireworks for the Fourth of July in Eugene-Springfield?
In Oregon, it is
illegal to deploy any firework that launches into the air or shoots flames without a permit. Legal fireworks, such as fountains, flitter sparklers, ground spinners and spinning wheels, are sold in the state from June 23 to July 6, but these fireworks are banned from use within Eugene city limits. Violation of this ban could result in a fine of up to $500. In Springfield, legal fireworks may be used.
