A Springfield man has been arrested for allegedly shooting and killing another man last weekend.

Springfield Police arrested Emmanuel K. Watts, 30, for the shooting death of Calvin Bell , 47, of Springfield.

Watts has not yet been charged by the Sangamon County State's Attorney's office, but he is behind bars in the Sangamon County Jail.

Deputy Chief Sara Pickford said in a news release that detectives arrested Watts for first-degree murder, aggravated battery/discharge of a firearm, aggravated discharge of a firearm, and unlawful possession of a weapon by a convicted felon.

Officers responded to a large fight in the 800 block of Stevenson Drive on the city's far south side right around 2 a.m. on March 8.

A witness said 20 to 30 people were involved in a disturbance in the 800 block of Stevenson Drive.

Pickford said gunshots could be heard during the 911 call to dispatch.

A number of people administered aid to Bell before he was taken by an ambulance to HSHS St. John’s Hospital.

Bell died shortly after he arrived at the hospital around 2:30 a.m.
