North Adams Police say David Lewis Jr. had roughly $8,000 in cocaine and cash in his possession when they arrested him in Adams on March 28.

NORTH ADAMS — A Springfield man is facing a drug trafficking charge in connection with an investigation that led to his arrest last week.

David Lewis Jr. was arrested in Adams on March 28, according to a statement by the North Adams Police Department, which conducted the investigation along with the Berkshire County Drug Task Force.

“As a result of the investigation, Lewis Jr. and his vehicle were searched by investigators,” according to the statement, which was posted Monday on the department's Facebook page.

The search uncovered 55 grams of crack cocaine — with a street value between $3,300 and $4,408 — and about $4,200 in cash, police said.

Lewis Jr. pleaded not guilty in Northern Berkshire District Court on Monday to one count of trafficking cocaine of 36-100 grams. He was ordered held on $5,000 cash bail.

North Adams Police did not immediately respond to a request for comment Friday.
