NELSON COUNTY, Va. (WVIR) - As of Saturday evening, 93 acres of Nelson County remained ablaze, with only 50% of the fire contained, according to a spokesperson with the Virginia Department of Forestry.

Crews worked through the night to try to contain the fire, and on Saturday, they were joined by the National Parks Service and U.S. Department of Forestry.

While the size of the fire remained stagnant through Saturday, progress was made overnight, dropping the acreage of the brush fire from its 120 acres on Friday evening.

The Virginia Department Forestry said its hoping the fire lines, which prevent the spread of the fire, hold up, and on Saturday, its efforts were toward extinguishing active flames and “mopping.”

There has been no forward progression of the fire.

The cause remains unknown.

Smoke visible in the area will likely not clear for up to a month.
