The state of Florida is home to 12 recruits who rank among the top 100 prospects in the Class of 2026 in the 247Sports Composite. Four have already issued a commitment, most notably five-star quarterback Dia Bell, who pledged to Texas last June.

The other committed prospects are linebackers Izayia Williams (Florida) and Jordan Campbell (Miami) and wide receiver Naeem Burroughs (Clemson).

More commitments should be coming in the next few months as prospects start taking official visits.

Here’s a look at the 10 most intriguing uncommitted players in the state and where things stand in their recruitment.

1. James Johnson, DL, 6-3, 285, Miami Northwestern, 4-star (No. 108)

Johnson has been climbing the rankings and is the No. 1 defensive lineman in the country, according to On3. He transferred from North Fort Myers to eight-time state champion Miami Northwestern for his senior year, where he’ll play for former NFL quarterback Teddy Bridgewater. Johnson had 60 tackles, 29 TFLs, five sacks and five quarterback hurries in nine games as a junior as he battled a knee injury.

Georgia is believed to be the front-runner, according to On3. He included Colorado, Florida, Texas and UCF among his top 10 schools. Johnson has official visits lined up to Penn State, Syracuse, Miami, Florida and Georgia.

2. Keenyi Pepe, OT, 6-7, 320, IMG Academy, 4-star (No. 84)

Pepe is a Southern California native but has been playing at IMG Academy since his freshman year. His older brother, Kobe, is a senior defensive lineman at USC, but Keenyi says he is willing to play in any part of the country. He is aiming to make a decision this summer so he can concentrate on his senior year before enrolling in college in December. He has official visits lined up to Miami and USC but is also considering Tennessee, Texas A&M, Oregon and UCLA, among others.

3. Derrek Cooper, ATH, 6-1, 205, Hollywood Chaminade, 4-star (No. 36)

The talented running back/linebacker has official visits lined up to Miami, Alabama, Georgia, Penn State and Ohio State. Florida State could get an official visit as well. Cooper told The Athletic last summer that his stepfather is a Seminoles fan and that he has a special relationship with FSU coach Mike Norvell. At one point last year, Cooper was committed to Georgia.

He said he will sign with a school that allows him to choose his position. As a junior, he ran for 905 yards and 13 touchdowns on offense and recorded 46 tackles, 10 TFLs, four sacks and three fumble recoveries on defense. He also blocked a pair of punts on special teams for state champion Chaminade.

4. Calvin Russell, WR, 6-5, 195, Miami Northwestern, 4-star (No. 38)

The son of University of Miami Hall of Fame women’s basketball player Chanivia Broussard has great size (6-foot-5, 195 pounds, 82-inch wingspan) and athleticism (he runs track and plays basketball), making him more than worthy of his national ranking. He caught 35 passes for 645 yards and 11 touchdowns as a junior on a state championship team.

The hometown Hurricanes feel like a natural fit, but Russell is going through the process of visiting all his suitors this spring and summer. LSU, Georgia, Florida, Florida State, Syracuse and Michigan are among a dozen schools he’s considering. Miami and Syracuse are believed to be at the top the list.

5. Trenton Henderson, edge, 6-4, 225, Pensacola Catholic, 4-star (No. 79)

Henderson has been making the rounds this spring, with trips to LSU, Michigan, Georgia, USC and Texas, and he plans to take official visits to Auburn, Vanderbilt, Alabama, Florida and Florida State. But he told 247Sports recently that he’s likely to shake up his list of official visits following a trip to Michigan.

Henderson, who also played basketball for Pensacola Catholic, had 50 tackles, including 18 for loss and 10 sacks, as a junior.

6. Justice Fitzpatrick, CB, 6-1, 185, Fort Lauderdale St. Thomas Aquinas, 4-star (No. 51)

The younger brother of three-time NFL All-Pro Minka Fitzpatrick has official visits lined up to Georgia, Miami and Texas but is likely to take other official visits, with Florida in the mix for one.

Fitzpatrick, who had 34 tackles, seven pass breakups and two interceptions in 12 games as a junior, has a long-standing relationship with Miami coach Mario Cristobal, who recruited Minkah to Alabama and knows the family well. Fitzpatrick also mentioned he loved his trip last summer to Florida State, where a couple of his former high school teammates play and where former Dolphins All-Pro Patrick Surtain coaches defensive backs. Fitzpatrick said Georgia is where he felt most comfortable because of his relationship with Kirby Smart, who also recruited Minka to Alabama.

7. Chauncey Kennon, CB, 6-1, 175, Sarasota Booker, 4-star (No. 70)

The talented two-way player and cousin of former NFL cornerback Sam Shields has been busy playing 7-on-7 this spring, but he’ll be visiting college campuses again soon. Kennon’s sister runs track at Florida State, which gives the Seminoles an advantage, according to On3. Kennon also frequently talked about how much he likes Surtain. But watch out for Georgia, which has produced a bunch of NFL defensive backs in recent years.

He has official visits lined up to Auburn, Miami, Georgia, Florida State and LSU this summer.

8. Jake Kreul, edge, 6-3, 230, IMG Academy, 4-star (No. 37)

Kreul is an Orlando-area native who transferred from Bishop Moore to IMG as a junior. He had early offers from Marshall and UCF after he recorded seven sacks as a high school freshman. He’s racked up 23 more sacks over the last two seasons.

Kruel told On3 last month that his top 12 consisted of Colorado, Florida, Florida State, Miami, Michigan, Ohio State, Oklahoma, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, Texas and Texas A&M. He told The Athletic the summer before his sophomore year that he grew up studying Joey Bosa and Nick Bosa at Ohio State.

9. Kendall Guervil, DL, 6-5, 310, Fort Myers, 4-star (No. 154)

The strong and talented defensive lineman has official visits lined up to Alabama, Georgia, Florida and USC. He’s been on Florida’s campus seven times for unofficial visits, and the Gators are considered the front-runner, along with Georgia.

Guervil had 88 tackles, including 12 for loss, in 11 games as a junior.

10. Simeon Caldwell, S, 6-3, 185, Jacksonville Bolles, 4-star (No. 95)

Caldwell, the son of Tampa Bay Buccaneers linebackers coach Mike Caldwell, said at the Under Armour All-American game in December that he’d already been to 17 college campuses with his family.

Caldwell has official visits lined up to Miami, USC, Notre Dame and Ohio State and wants to make his college decision before the start of his senior year. But he also wants to wait to see what happens in terms of coaching changes in December before signing. This will likely come down to a Notre Dame-Ohio State battle.
