The Columbia River tennis team is looking strong after the first day of the 2A state tennis tournament in Seattle.

Lucas Walburn, a junior, reached the singles semifinals with a pair of straight-set victories on Friday.

And he did it by beating two opponents he defeated at state last year on his way to a fourth-place finish.

Walburn opened with a 6-3, 6-3 win over Cameron Erb of East Valley-Yakima, and then topped Joseph Cao of Bremerton 6-3, 6-1.
