Flipping the switch from hot and dry to cool and wet as Easter weekend approaches. A cold front moved through Kansas overnight, and has brought much cloudier skies and cooler temps for today.

Spotty showers and storms develop gradually through the afternoon and into the evening along and east of the turnpike.

Some of these storms could be strong to severe, particularly for wind and hail. It is not impossible for a tornado to occur this evening, but it is improbable.

The front will be stalled out to our south and east through the next couple of days, serving as the focus for continued waves of showers and storms. This will lead to off and on showers mainly along and east of the turnpike, while Oklahoma gets the lion’s share of the moisture.

An area of low pressure develops along the front by Saturday evening, and this will recharge our chances of rainfall. The low lifts north into Sunday morning and spreads the rain back into Kansas for Easter.

A Flood Watch is in effect for southeastern portions of the KSN viewing area, including Kay, Cowley, Elk, and Chautauqua counties until 7pm Sunday.

With the heavy clouds and rain, temperatures will be cool through the weekend. Highs struggle to climb out of the 50s both Saturday and Sunday.

A break arrives Monday, then we gear up for more chances of storms next week beginning Tuesday.
