EVANS, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A student is being criminally charged after an altercation with another student at Lakeside High School, parents learned on Wednesday.

In a letter sent home to parents, school officials say the altercation occurred in front of other students in the gymnasium, where one student was injured.

Upon investigation by the Columbia County School District Police, one student is being criminally charged and held accountable according to the code of conduct.

“The safety of students and sta is a top priority, and inappropriate physical contact of any nature is prohibited by law and the code of conduct. This behavior will not be tolerated at Lakeside High School,” said the letter.
