Being placed in foster care is scary and stressful enough. A suitcase drive is working to make that transition a little easier.
Right now, hundreds of kids in Colorado Springs are in foster care. Entering foster care can be traumatic, but some community members are doing what they can to make the transition a bit smoother and less scary. You may be surprised to learn that their assistance is actually quite simple: a suitcase drive. In most cases, when a child enters foster care they are given a trash bag to put their belongings in. Becky Wyzykowski, a former social worker and licensed child care provider, founded Cases of Love to change that. In an already-traumatizing situation, the last thing a confused, scared child needs is to be told that their belongings are garbage.
