Test your balancing skills while taking in the beauty of the Bohemia River on one of the upcoming Stand Up Paddle Guided Tour & Wine Tasting excursions!

Adventure-seekers will start the day off with a basic on-land introduction to Stand Up Paddling. You are more than welcome to bring your own equipment or use one of the boards provided by the gracious host of this event, Kula SUP. After you're familiar with the ways of the paddle board, you’ll launch your board into the serene Bohemia River.

Your guide will take you on a tour of the river’s wildlife and its beautiful scenery. Angie Hall, the founder of Kula SUP, and also your guide for the excursion, loves Bohemia River. She mentioned that on one of her recent tours they saw a bald eagle!

“It is a great river to paddle in either direction and there are some pretty cool coves and creeks to paddle through as well," Hall said.

After your paddle board experience, which I am sure will double as a core workout, you’ll be back on dry land for a refreshing wine-tasting. The tasting will take place at the Broken Spoke Winery, which is a short five-minute drive from the launching site. You are more than welcome to bring your own food and snacks. One wine-tasting and a shared cheese platter are included with the expedition.

The tour and wine-tasting last about three hours, taking place from 2 to 5 p.m. The exact location of the paddle board launch is provided after you register online. Tickets are $50 if you’d like to borrow equipment from Kula SUP, and $30 if you can bring your own equipment. Space is limited since Kula SUP has only eight paddle boards it can provide for the guided tour. But if you have your own equipment, the class size is usually capped at 16 participants. Classes run through October.

Angie founded Kula SUP in May 2017, and started giving guided tours at the Bohemia River in September 2017. She has an impressive background as a former Junior Olympic gymnast, a personal trainer, and a yoga instructor.

And if you love the origins of and meanings behind names, you’re in for a treat. Kula SUP is named after Angie’s 40-pound Sulcata Tortoise. She named him Kula when she was 10 and had no idea about the meaning of his name. Now he is 20 years old and the mascot for Angie’s Kula SUP business. And his name, “Kula” means love and community in Sanscrit. Obviously, Angie’s heart is dedicated to her venture: “as a yoga teacher my intention is often love and bringing people together. Individually we are one drop, together we are an ocean,” she says on the Kula SUP website.
