AUGUSTA, Ga. (WRDW/WAGT) - A suspect who was wanted in connected to the 2023 killing of a mom on East Taylor Street has been arrested, according to the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office. Deputies say Shawn Antonio Walker was located at a residence on the 1700 block of Watkins Street on Wednesday by the Southeastern U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force. The sheriff’s office says upon arrival, Walker refused to exit the residence or comply with law enforcement. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office SWAT Team was called to the scene, according to deputies. Deputies say trough coordinated efforts, including engagement with the suspect’s mother who was present, Walker was taken into custody without incident. “We sincerely thank the Southeastern U.S. Marshals Fugitive Task Force, the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office Criminal Investigation Division, the Road Patrol, and the Crime Suppression Team for their diligent efforts in ensuring a peaceful resolution to this case. Our dedicated team and law enforcement partners continue to work tirelessly to bring justice to victims and to lower violent crime in our community,” said Richmond County Sheriff Gino Brantley. In 2023, Richmond County Coroner Mark Bowen said Shaneikwa Lafavor was killed at her home in a shooting that also injured a man and an 11-year-old in the 200 block of East Taylor Street . The shooting happened sometime before 6:45 p.m. on May 22, 2023 in the Delta Manor neighborhood of utilitarian one-story brick dwellings. The sheriff’s office says Walker has a criminal record of violence. He has a violent past and has been in and out of jail and prison for years, according to his criminal record. His offenses include firing a gun into a car back in 1999, firing a gun into a house in 2004, and hitting someone in the head with a gun in 2012. He was also convicted of simple battery in 2001 for hitting and kicking a woman. He has a violent past and has been in and out of jail and prison for years, according to his criminal record.
