A tragic series of events unfolded in Richmond Heights, where a woman was fatally shot and a man suspected of her murder was later found dead, News 5 Cleveland reports. The woman, identified as 25-year-old Mariah Sanders of Euclid, was shot near the 444 Park Apartments on Richmond Park East, with a witness describing the chilling scene of the suspect following and then shooting her multiple times. A baby, found unharmed near Sanders, is now in the care of her grandmother. Police, alongside U.S. Marshals, had launched an extensive search for the suspect both on the ground and from the air, deploying officers from several departments, which, according to a FOX8 report, culminated in the discovery of the suspect's body with "an apparent self-inflicted gunshot" wound in Mayfield City Park, he was a 23-year-old male. Still, his name has not been released, prompting police to issue a now-resolved warning to residents to stay indoors and report any suspicious activity. The unfortunate string of events began yesterday evening. By this morning, the dramatic search came to an end as the suspect, Shamar Summeral, was found deceased, as detailed by Cleveland19 . Richmond Heights Police Chief Calvin Williams expressed his condolences. He addressed the somber reality that such incidents, as deplorable as they are, do occur, extending his prayers to the family of the victim. Initial reports from the scene, where Sanders was found dead in the rear of the building near the parking lot, suggested that the infant was in a stroller when found; the SWAT team subsequently arrived to aid in the manhunt that lasted hours before it came to a close with the discovery of Summeral's body, he and Sanders were known to each other yet details of their relationship remain undisclosed; this paints a heart-rending picture of a community now mourning and trying to piece together the fragmented remains of what once was, as it grapples with the aftermath of violence that has left two dead and a child without a mother.
