The Tahoe Knight Monsters are moving on in the ECHL's Kelly Cup Playoffs after completing a four-game sweep of the Wichita Thunder in Friday's 3-2 win from the Tahoe Blue Event Center in Stateline. Following Wednesday's wild win - when Tahoe rallied from down two goals in the third to force overtime - South Lake's team once again found itself trailing into the final period. But the Thunder's 2-1 lead was erased via a power-play goal from Bear Hughes. Then with under three minutes left, Patrick Newell found the back of the net from a difficult angle, breaking the 2-2 tie and giving Tahoe the 3-2 lead. The Knight Monsters then held off a furious final attempt from the Thunder behind the goalie play of Jesper Vikman, who finished with 25 saves. Tahoe moves on to the final of the Mountain Division's bracket, where it'll face the winner of Kansas City and Tulsa. Those two are heading to a game six, giving the Knight Monsters time to rest.
