All aboard! The 24th Annual Manassas Heritage Railway Festival is coming back June 2, and tickets are on sale now for train rides from Manassas to the Clifton station! Don't miss your chance to wow your little tyke with a real, live train ride and more!
The Manassas Heritage Railway Festival, held this year on June 2, is in its 24th year! Expect to see model train exhibits, live music, food trucks, and the star of the show: train rides for $6 per ticket! Located in the heart of the historic Manassas district, the elaborate toy train displays will be set up by local train vendors under Harris Pavilion, 9201 Center St. As you watch the miniature trains come to life, live country and bluegrass bands will play, bringing you back to the old days. [gallery type="rectangular" ids="7941,7940"] Speaking of the old days, the Manassas Gap Railroad was the first railroad in American history to move troops to a major battle. In the Civil War, Brigadier General Stonewall Jackson's brigade marched from Winchester, Virginia, through Ashby Gap and boarded trains at the Piedmont Station at Delaplane, Virginia. From there they were transported to Manassas Junction and hopped off to join the fight at the First Battle of Manassas.
On June 2, you'll get to experience a little of what those troops did, except without all that pesky impending doom! Train rides from Manassas to Clifton will run at 10 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m., and 2 p.m. and are available to purchase now at $6 per ticket. You'll want to buy in advance because tickets might sell out by the day of the festival! Click here to buy yours! (Pro tip: when you show up for your train ride, make sure you are on the side of the tracks with the Train Depot at least 35 minutes prior to your departure).
