On Tuesday, August 15, Target launched next-day home delivery of household items in Denver. The delivery system is called Target Restock and is Target's move against Amazon's delivery service.

In a move to compete with Amazon's same-day delivery service, Target created its own next-day home delivery service called Target Restock and will deliver household essentials to folks in the Denver metro area. The service also launched in Dallas-Fort Worth, Texas. Here's how it works:
  • Guests visit Target Restock and have the choice of 15,000 popular essentials.
  • Add the items you need in your box.
  • Order by 2 p.m. Monday through Friday and you can have next-day delivery for $4.99.

The box ("shopping cart") can not exceed 45 pounds. To order, customers must input their zip code so that products shown reflect the stores' inventories. While shopping, the capacity tracker will help customers know when they are getting close to the 45-pound limit. The company first launched a test of Target Restock in Minneapolis back in June. Since then, Target has been diligently working on enhancing the service, with notable updates like expanding the assortment of items you can purchase; Saturday deliveries are now available; and the service is open to all guests instead of just Target REDcard holders. next-day home Target said in its press release,
We know our guests are busy, and we're committed to finding new ways to get guests what they need, fast."
Competition between online retailers is not slowing down. In fact, it's speeding up. For instance, Amazon recently launched "Instant Pickup Points," a system where shoppers can pick up orders for certain items within a few minutes of making their purchase. It's very much in the same vein as Walmart's same-day pickup, but faster. What do you think of Target's new next-day home delivery service? Also, how do you think these online shopping delivery and pickup services will change how we purchase groceries and other products in the future? Are we nearing the end of in-store shopping?
