The final whistle appeared to have been blown on Apple TV+ megahit Ted Lasso at the end of May 2023 - but the players haven't left the pitch just yet.

In recent weeks, speculation about a fourth season has intensified, and multiple sources have reported the focus for a new series will be on a women's professional football team.

In January, entertainment insider MyTimeToShineHello wrote on X: "I hear that for season 4, Ted Lasso is now a women's soccer coach."

And last month, self-confessed Apple TV aficionado Sigmund Judge posted on X: "EXCLUSIVE: London filming for #TedLasso S4 is now set to begin in May/June with focus shifting at AFC Richmond to the formation of its women’s team."

The first three seasons told the story of English professional football team AFC Richmond, who are managed by an American college football coach, Jason Sudeikis' character Ted Lasso, who left the team in the series three finale to return to the US and be with his son.

Ahead of a potential new series, there has been plenty of talk about which current and former footballers and managers might make cameos - and several of England's Lionesses, past and present, are in the mixer on UK betting sites .

Scotts' Season 4 Takeover

At the end of series three, club owner Rebecca Welton (Hannah Waddingham) and PR expert Keeley Jones (Juno Temple) discussed the idea of launching a women's team at Nelson Road.

It sounds like their dreams might come true in series four, and it would be no surprise to see some former Lionesses turn up to help get the team off the ground.

Former professional women's players Jill and Alex Scott are both short prices on betting apps to make cameos in a fourth season of Ted Lasso.

Ex-I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here! star Jill is the Evens favourite, ahead of the likes of Football Focus presenter Alex ( 11/8 ) and Eni Aluko ( 2/1 ), who appeared in season two as street soccer star Georgia.

Of the current women's pros, England goalkeeper Mary Earps - who won the 2023 BBC Sports Personality of the Year Award - has a strong media presence.

While she is now in goal for Paris Saint-Germain, the 11/10 odds on her to make a cameo could look quite short if the AFC Richmond women's team go on tour to the French capital.

England captain and Arsenal star Leah Williamson is just 7/4 for a guest appearance in Ted Lasso series four, while her Lionesses manager Sarina Wiegman isn't far behind at 5/2 .

Former Chelsea manager Emma Hayes ( 3/1 ) is now working across the pond as manager of the United States women's national team, and some of America's legendary players could make cameos in the series, too.

Alex Morgan is just 4/1 , while Megan Rapinoe is a 5/1 chance and Mia Hamm is 12/1 .

Keane To Meet Kent

Should Jill Scott make a Ted Lasso season four cameo then she might be able to tempt her friend Roy Keane along, too.

The former Manchester United captain - who AFC Richmond player Roy Kent is said to be based on - and Jill have developed a friendship on podcast Stick to Football, which is hosted by Gary Neville and also features Ian Wright and Jamie Carragher.

Keane is 6/4 to come face-to-face with his doppelganger Kent in the next series, and Neville is a 9/2 shot to make a cameo, followed by Wright ( 5/1 ) and Carragher ( 11/2 ).

Former Arsenal player Wright is no stranger to the show after making a guest appearance in season two as a pundit, as have Thierry Henry ( 2/1 ) and Gary Lineker ( 3/1 ).

Former Liverpool star Peter Crouch is just 7/2 to cameo in season four after he previously featured in series two and three via his That Peter Crouch Podcast, and Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola - who played himself in season three - is 4/1 to be back for more in season four.

Ex-Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is also a 4/1 shot, while Harry Redknapp - who, like Jill, has also won I'm A Celebrity - is 9/1 .

Like Keane, Jack Grealish has a character thought to be loosely based on him in Ted Lasso.

Grealish is the inspiration for AFC Richmond striker Jamie Tartt - who is played by Phil Dunster - and it's just 7/4 that Pep's Man City star makes a guest appearance in series four.

Rebecca And Keeley Odds-On For Returns

It's highly expected Sudeikis will reprise his titular role as Ted Lasso in the new-look fourth season, but who will join him?

In August, sources told Deadline that Warner Bros. had approached Hannah Waddingham, Brett Goldstein and Jeremy Swift, who portray Rebecca ( 1/5 ), Roy ( 1/4 ) and Richmond's Director of Football Operations Leslie Higgins ( 2/7 ) respectively, to appear in the next series.

It would also make sense for Juno to reprise her role as Keeley, after she and Rebecca had floated the idea of a potential women's team at the end of season three.

What's more, it wouldn't be a shock to see Kent take a coaching role in the new women's team after he previously had a hand in coaching his niece Phoebe's team, West London U9s Girls.
