ST. LOUIS, Mo. ( KMOV /Gray News) - A 16-year-old was shot and killed while breaking into cars early Friday morning, according to police. St. Louis Metropolitan Police Department spokesman Mitch McCoy said 911 received a call for “suspicious people that may be breaking into cars.” According to surveillance video, a group of six suspected thieves can be seen getting out of a vehicle and breaking into a white Chevrolet Suburban before something startles them, before they start firing guns in all directions. Police said one of the suspects shot a 16-year-old accomplice. On surveillance video, the teen can be heard screaming. “I run downstairs and grabbed my phone and I see him lay down on the ground and I call police,” said Robert Casseus, who lives nearby. McCoy said the group of suspected thieves dropped the teen off at the hospital, where he later died. Authorities believe the suspects may have been involved in similar crimes elsewhere. “I can confirm that our detectives are working with other nearby law enforcement agencies to see if these individuals are connected to any other car break-ins that have happened across the region,” McCoy said. Less than 40 minutes before this incident, St. Louis County police reported that officers were called to an area for a report of thieves breaking into cars about five miles away.
