KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT) - The Football Writers Association of America (FWAA) announced Tuesday that Tennessee senior offensive lineman Cooper Mays was selected as the Outland Trophy National Player of the Week for his performance in the Nov. 9 win over Mississippi State. Mays played in all 78 offensive snaps as Tennessee rolled up 452 total yards, including 240 on the ground, in the Vols' 33-14 win over the Bulldogs. Tennessee defensive back Will Brooks has also been chosen as a semifinalist for the 2024 Burlsworth Trophy, as announced on Tuesday afternoon. Brooks is one of 10 semifinalists and is one of just two from the SEC. The redshirt senior safety becomes the second player in program history to be named a semifinalist for the Burlsworth Trophy, joining Nick Reveiz, who was a finalist in 2010. Sampson is the third Vol to earn semifinalist status for the Maxwell Award in the last three years, joining the duo of Hendon Hooker and Jalin Hyatt in 2022. Junior defensive end James Pearce Jr. was named one of 20 semifinalists for the Chuck Bednarik Award, nine of which are from SEC programs. The Bednarik Award has been presented annually to the most outstanding defensive player in college football since 1994.
