DELAWARE, Ohio ( WCMH ) — A 65-year-old from Tennessee died Wednesday afternoon after crashing his semi-truck in Delaware County, Ohio.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said that Steve Pope Sr. of Smyrna was driving a Mack semi south on U.S. Route 23 north of Coover Road just after 12:45 p.m. in Troy Township. Pope drove off the road up an embankment, overturned, hit a utility pole, and then the end of a concrete bridge.

Medics arrived and pronounced Pope dead at the scene. The crash remains under investigation as the OSHP looks to determine if impairment or distraction was a factor. Authorities said Pope was wearing his seat belt.
