For those with young children, summer brings afternoons at the playground, weekend trips to the beach, and days spent at the pool. If you have a baby or toddler that's not yet potty-trained, you might be facing a dilemma. What type of diaper do you put on your child? Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your viewpoint), there are lots of options to choose from. What you don't want to choose for sure, though, is a standard diaper. I know first-time moms who have made this mistake, and let's just say, the end result was not pretty.
When we took our son to Florida for the first time to visit my family, I stumbled upon i play's pull-up reusable swim diaper. I found it at Target for only $9.99, and as any frequent Target shopper knows, you can get most items for even less with their current promotions or Cartwheel app. First and foremost, these swim diapers are adorable. They come in a variety of colors and prints for both boys and girls, as well as white if you're planning on putting it underneath swim trunks or a one-piece swimsuit. They claim to be "leak-resistant with a waterproof lining to help contain solid waste," and they offer UV protection with a UPF 50+ rating. Their sizes range from small to x-large, or 6 months to 24 months, as well as 3T and 4T.

Most major diaper companies such as Pampers, Huggies, and even organic line Babyganics make disposable swim diapers that theoretically don't swell with water and disintegrate as a typical diaper would. Personally, I have not tried these. Based on the reviews online, it appears that they work pretty well, but some people have complained of their ability to absorb. i play, on the other hand, "is the original reusable swim diaper manufacturer and has a patented three-layer design. The wicking liner helps prevent diaper rash, the inner absorbent layer helps protect against messes outside the pool, and the waterproof outer layer works with the snug-fitting waist and legs to provide secure protection from unsanitary and embarrassing accidents in the pool."
When my son was a baby, i play's swim diaper worked great. They were easy to get on and off (although they do run small), and we didn't have any leaks. Now that he's a very active toddler that can handle being in the water for longer periods of time, we try our best to wait until after he's had a dirty diaper to put him in one. If you're still worried about accidents (even though we've only had one, I understand the concern!) some parents will layer a disposable diaper with a reusable diaper. I think because i play runs small, I would recommend doing that with a different reusable brand. As for ease of use, i play does make ones with snaps on the side for a little bit more money, found on either Amazon, or on i play's own website.

If you prefer swim trunks for your little guy or a classic one-piece swimsuit for your little girl, i play makes those as well. They also sell rashguards, tankinis, hats, water shoes, sunglasses, and more, all found on their website. If you have a tiny princess, they even have styles with ruffles on the bum, which are too cute for words. I've already bought our son the next size up to have on-hand, since the adorable prints, affordable price, ease of use, and pretty good absorption levels are hard to beat.
This family-run company was started in 1982 by Becky Canon in her home. According to their website, while living in Japan, "she discovered unique, quality baby products with special functions, made from natural materials and cute designs." Once Becky moved back to the U.S. and had her second daughter, i play, Inc. was born. She took what she learned in Japan to create a line that has since grown into a family of brands that develop and produce natural, healthy baby products.
