Out of all the states in the United States , the following states had the lowest traffic: Delaware, Vermont, Rhode Island, West Virginia, New Hampshire, Maine, Connecticut, North Dakota, Maryland, and Mississippi. On the other hand, Florida, Texas, and California were the top 3 states with the highest private jet traffic, with over 30% of the United States having private jet traffic, according to Private Jet Card Comparisons.

From premier golf tournaments to Formula 1 races, these events drew the highest number of private jets throughout 2023.

Below is a table comparing private jet traffic with the lowest traffic in 2023 and 2024, its percentage contribution to the overall private jet traffic in the US, and the percentage change between 2023 and 2024.

1 Delaware

After a short-lived return to Delaware's New Castle Airport outside Wilmington, Frontier Airlines is ending its services there on June 6.

Delaware's largest employers are government, education, banking, chemical, pharmaceutical, technology, healthcare, farming and retail, meaning that tourism only makes up a small percentage of its employment sector. Even though there are a handful of activities to do in Delaware, there isn't a lot that would attract a private jet clientele.

2 Vermont

Vermont is located in the northeastern area of the United States and has a population of around 650, 000. Vermont's population is not very large, and there are very few residents with a net worth that is enough to splurge on a private charter. When traveling to Vermont, there are not many amenities which would intrigue private jet clients. There are two popular destinations that a majority of private jet clientele are interested in, which are Montpellier and Stowe.

The three occupants of the aircraft were airlifted to a nearby hospital.

Montpellier is the capital city of Vermont, named after a city in the South of France its vibrant arts and culture scene, such as the Montpelier Theater Guild, Vermont History Museum and Capital City Concerts. The Winooski River is 90 miles long and flows in northern Vermont. It is great for recreational activities; for example, canoeing, kayaking, fishing and swimming.

Stowe has a breath-taking view and is known for its winter activities such as skiing, dog sledging, ice climbing, sleigh rides and much more. There are also activities to do in the summer, like fishing, paddling and mountain biking. Regardless of the time of year tourists come to visit, there is always something to do alongside, such as visiting the spa and getting educated on its arts and culture.

3 Rhode Island

Rhode Island is located in New England. It is known for its beaches and sunny seaside towns. It is the home of Newport, a very popular city and a luxurious destination within Rhode Island. This would indicate that Rhode Island wouldn't necessarily be on the 'states with the least private jet air traffic' list, due to Newport's yacht harbor which hosts the sailing regatta every year. However, a majority of the private jet clientele would prefer nearby cities such as New York.

Newport is also known for its winter activities. To get cozy, tourists can rent out the heated igloos and go to the hot chocolate bar. In the summer, tourists can enjoy a range of activities, such as ocean drives, outdoor recreation and the beaches.

Rhode Island is known for its tourist attractions; however, these are seasonal. Unlike other states, Rhode Island does not have many destinations with extreme seasonal surges that would attract private jet customers.

4 West Virginia

West Virginia is located in the Southern and Mid-Atlantic regions of the United States. It borders Pennsylvania, Maryland, Kentucky and Ohio. West Virginia's economy is run on coal mining, manufacturing, and agriculture, which doesn't attract the need for private aviation. Unlike other major states, West Virginia does not have a huge business or corporate presence. Below is a table highlighting the top 10 companies for employment in West Virginia.

The following table will show West Virginia's employment growth in each sector in 2024, ascending from the top 10 employment sectors.

The largest airport in West Virginia is Yeager International Airport. Yeager International Airport serves Charleston, Huntington and southern West Virginia. Yeager International Airport sees a lot of commercial airline traffic, such as PSA Airlines, Endeavor Airlines and American Airlines, but it does not receive much private jet traffic. The Federal Aviation Authority has reviewed various airport projects, such as for the airfield, safety and terminal improvements.

5 New Hampshire

New Hampshire is a state in the Northeast region of the United States. It borders Massachusetts, Vermont, Maine, the Gulf of Maine, and the Canadian province of Quebec. New Hampshire's capital city is Concord and its largest city is Manchester, at 35.0 square miles. It is a great area to go to if you are interested in skiing, hiking or camping as it has big forests, mountains and lakes.

In the past New Hampshire was known for shoes, paper and clothes although now it has a strong economy due to technology, education and banking. New Hampshire is one of the wealthiest states, with a median household income of approximately $74, 000.

Below is a table showing the 5 wealthiest states in 2023 ranked due to the median household income.

Even though New Hampshire is one of the wealthiest states in the US, its private jet traffic is very low. Considering that it has industries such as banking and technology, New Hampshire does not have as many opportunities as other states, such as New York. Below is a table showing the top 10 industries that dominate New Hampshire's economy, showing the percentage of individuals employed in each sector.

As seen from the table, services and trade dominate the employment sector in New Hampshire. Education and healthcare are close behind, showing their importance to the community.
