Happy hour is a must in the city of Washington D.C.  Many Washingtonians and suburbanites feel the need to experience the much needed after-work ritual.

Some of you, however, no longer appreciate the necessity that was once a major part of your lives.  Surely, everyone has had to let off a little steam from the grinds of work before heading home.  Many recall lasting memories such as meeting a new friend or lover (or two).  The meeting at the happy hour spot is an American normalcy.  We've found the best restaurant bars in the D.C. area.

Pizzeria Paradiso is a popular place if you want pizza.

[gallery size="large" ids="1439,1438,1440"] The Georgetown pizzeria has 15 taps and over 250 bottles from great selection of beers. The pizza runs between $12 and $18 dollars depending on the size, and the beer isn't costly either.

Rebellion is where you'll find a good BBQ shrimp and a shot bourbon.

It's located on 18th St NW and features a list of spirits with over 250 types of bourbon and whisky. The food is traditional Southern; they're serving fried chicken, shrimp and grits, and barbecue ribs.  Rebellion has also been credited with creating five unique tasty cocktails.

Firefly is a good choice for an after-work date.

[gallery size="large" ids="1444,1445,1446"] It's intimate and perfectly lit for people looking for something more personal.  Located in New Hampshire Ave NW, Firefly's happy hour features a recommended Bee's Knees (gin, lemon, and honey) as well as a much desired Gold Rush (whiskey, ginger liquor, lemon).  The fried chicken thigh is a great option as well.

It's a fact that many of the happiest moments in life are shared over spirits with friends and loved one.  It's also a fact that Shakespeare used the term "Happy Hour" in Henry V.

Ghibellina is a great place for the socially challenged.

[gallery size="large" ids="1449,1447,1448"] The open window allows you to look out onto the busy 14th St. in NW Washington D.C.  It's a great location to simply unwind and take in scenes.  Pizza runs around $8 and the beer is less than that.  It's an awesome warm day environment.

Eighteenth Street Lounge is an ideal place for an "anything goes" type of night.

[gallery size="large" ids="1453,1451,1452"] You walk in and the first thing you see is candlelit tables and adequate seating. It's the perfect setting for a small crowd of people.  But look carefully and you'll see small sofas and personal nooks if the goal is to get a bit more intimate.  Eigteenth Street Lounge is a converted townhouse that is comprised of five unique areas: the Gold Room, the Jazz Bar, the Main Room, the Studio Bar and the Deck Bar.  You simply can't pass this one by.

If you're not interested in going out tonight, here are some great cocktails you can make at home!
