If you have not been to National Harbor yet, you may want to consider paying this D.C. hotspot a visit. The Harbor is home to dozens of shops, a scenic waterfront, exquisite dining and lots more. Whether you are visiting the area or are a local resident, there’s so much to do and always something new. Below is a list of the best that National Harbor has to offer.

MGM National Harbor

National Harbor Of the things to do at National Harbor, the MGM National Harbor is a big draw. The $1.3 billion resort casino is the latest addition to Maryland’s gaming scene and hosts entertainment, is home to a salon and spa, meeting space, over a dozen restaurants and high end retail. Whether you want to try your luck in the casino or enjoy the resort amenities, the MGM can keep anyone entertained and is something most would be surprised to see in Maryland.  

The Capital Wheel

The Capital Wheel meanwhile is the perfect place to take the family, hangout with friends or go on a date. The gondolas reach a height of 180 feet above the Potomac river and provide views of the D.C. skyline. You can also try a VIP Gondola that has a glass floor and wine chillers.

Riverside Fun

National Harbor also has available paddleboats, canoes and kayaks that you can rent and ride on the river. Stand up paddleboards are also available, as are SUP classes to those who have not been and need to learn. If you own a boat, the dock at National Harbor Marina is a prime destination.

The Awakening

National Harbor Artist J. Seward Johnson Jr.’s five-piece cast iron sculpture is a thirty-five-year-old artwork that depicts an iron giant emerging from sand. This mystifying piece of artwork was transplanted from its original location near the Jefferson Memorial in 2008. The artwork is quite impressive and something that visitors are not likely to forget.

The waterfront location is prime and signature glass atriums have made the Gaylord a four-diamond rated facility. Meanwhile, the Westin has full service luxury sure to make any visitor feel like king or queen for a day.

The Jumbotron

National Harbor has an outdoor Jumbotron on which visitors can watch movies, a big sports game, award ceremony or some other big event or screening. The Jumbotron is 18 by 32 feet and during the summer months regularly hosts movie nights as part of the summer-long “Movies on the Potomac" series. The movie nights are all free and cater to all ages. 

Outlet Shopping

National Harbor Tanger Outlets has lots of great deals and cool stuff for shoppers. The dozens of stores include a Polo Ralph Lauren outlet, Michael Kohrs, Toys R Us, Kitchen Collection, a Brooks Brothers outlet and Swarovski. No matter what you need or want, Tanger Outlets is a prime shopping destination and certain to have something for everyone. There is also a shuttle that you can take from the river up the hill to the shops.
 

Water Taxis

National Harbor Water Taxis depart from National Harbor and can take you to destinations such as the National Mall or Mount Vernon, you also can see the cherry blossoms or catch the sunset on the water in the Harbor’s charter vessels. The Charters include the Cherry Blossom, which is a stern-wheeler riverboat that provides an ideal way to sightsee. The Odyssey cruise, meanwhile, has a dance floor while family and luxury tour boats also operate at and from the Harbor.

Summer Concert Series

National Harbor The National Harbor’s Summer Concert series, just like its Movie nights, are free. The concert series is Friday nights and host to some of the best National and local acts from May to September. There's nothing like listening to live music under the stars down by the river.
In addition to the things mentioned here, National Harbor has top notch fine dining restaurants you can enjoy in the resort’s riverside setting. The Old Hickory Steakhouse and Walrus Oyster Alehouse are solid choices to eat in the moonlight, as also is the Crab Cake Café and the many other dining options.
