On January 19, California-based maker of barrel-aged and experimental beers “The Bruery” opened its newest location at Union Square in downtown D.C.
Since 2008, boutique craft brew maker “The Bruery” has been selling some of the finest barrel-aged beers from its two California tasting rooms and brew facilities. Now local area brew fans will no longer have to wait weeks on end for their online orders as the company has just opened a retail store in D.C.’s Union Market. The new Union Market location will sell bottled and canned beer and growler fills along with clothing items bearing the company’s logos and name. The Bruery has gained a reputation for producing exceptionally strong beers, some of which are nearly 40 proof in alcohol volume and are currently distributed in 29 states out of Anaheim, California. Almost half of the beers produced by The Bruery are aged in spirit or wine barrels, which gives the company’s beers a flavor comparable to classic American and Belgian countryside distillers.
The Bruery’s D.C. store is the first and only company location outside of California and is located at 513 Morse Street in Northeast D.C. The Bruery has taken over the space formerly occupied by indie butcher shop Kramer & Sons and will be shared with another yet to be announced retailer. The new 5,000-square-foot location is on the second floor of Union Market and has eight beers on tap, including brews produced by sister brewers Offshoot Beer and Bruery Terreux. While beer fans will have the option of picking up their orders in store or buying what they want in store, free tastings will not be offered at the new location. The store’s selection will also include occasional limited releases, as well as year-round and archival selections.
The company’s Union Market location is open from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., Tuesday through Saturday. To learn more about The Bruery and its beers, visit the company’s website.
