Colorado is one of 35 semi-finalists to pioneer a huge shift in how we travel. Plans are being prepped for the Colorado Hyperloop.

Colorado has made it on the short-ish list to utilize a supersonic transport system with Hyperloop One. The Colorado Hyperloop will be an innovative means of transportation for humans and more. This ground breaking tech is designed to quickly zip passengers and cargo along the Front Range at over 700 mph.

After vetting 2,600 applications in five months, Colorado is one of 35 semifinalists worldwide in the running to construct a hyperloop. The Colorado Hyperloop will run from Fort Collins to Pueblo. In August, energetically innovative Silicon Valley golden-boy Elon Musk, CEO of SpaceX and Tesla Motors, presented his hyperloop concept. This high-speed transportation system is planned to consist of 28-person pods that will shoot through low-pressurized tubes on air bearings. The published proposal aims for the Hyperloop to connect San Francisco and Los Angeles. This system would shoot the pods at 760 mph, reducing the trip from San Fran to LA from 5 hours to just 35 minutes. The Hyperloop could break travel boundaries everywhere.

With this innovation, we could possibly redefine what a “morning commute” actually means. The Front Range Hyperloop website states:
Theoretically, pairs such as Memphis and Chicago or Salt Lake City and Seattle could bridge the distance of a morning commute. Blending economies and cultures, and reshaping the continent."
Currently, travel time from Fort Collins to Pueblo takes at most three and a half hours. The Hyperloop will have connecting points through all major towns and cities between Fort Collins and Pueblo. For some insight on how super-charged the Hyperloop will be, by CDOT’s estimations, the Colorado Hyperloop could make travel time from Denver to Boulder only five minutes long. Not to mention, it will only cost roughly the same as a bus ticket. There is still some waiting time for the big man upstairs to choose which of the 35 chosen locations will take part in the program. Of the 35 semi-finalists, Hyperloop One will choose around a dozen winners in May. CDOT plans to begin construction as soon as possible if Colorado is selected.

Both taxpayer dollars allocated from CDOT’s ROAD-X program, and also private funding derived from Hyperloop One’s company. Being one of 35 semi-finalists is a huge honor in and of itself. The Colorado Hyperloop is up against semi-finalists from 17 different countries, and 11 teams in the United States. Fingers crossed we can be one of the locations to pioneer this innovative and impressive mode of transportation.
