HERDON, Va. (7News) — As part of our Spotlight on Education series, Roxanne Strouk visited The Nysmith School in Fairfax County, where students are collecting essential toiletries for Centers for Opportunity—a local organization that supports adults through employment services, wellness assistance, and peer support. Social studies teacher Nicole Vlattas explained how the Lower School participates in community service every year. With help from the PTA, each grade is connected to a charity that matches their age group’s interests and capabilities. This year, the third graders are collecting toiletries to support adults in need, learning the importance of community involvement and the impact they can have in someone’s life. The effort is also designed to inspire students to take the lead in running community service projects of their own in the future.
