"This is brand-new information!"

In 1994, Nelson Mandela becomes president of South Africa, O.J. Simpson flees police in his white Ford Bronco, Tonya Harding wins the National Figure Skating Championship title (and is also stripped of that title), and NBC debuts a sitcom called Friends. Season one started with six 20-something friends living in New York City, as well as a monkey who joined them in the 10th episode, "The One With the Monkey."

After the series ended, Marcel the Capuchin monkey has been busier than most of the cast from Friends. Known as Katie in real life, she has her own IMDB page and has starred in numerous shows, movies, and a hot photoshoot with Kendall Jenner for Allure. Katie’s agents (we don’t like the word owners) are Bob Dunn's Animal Services, a pet agency that finds acting gigs and events for her.

FX may try to keep this a secret, but they don't know that we know they know we know!

Katie the Capuchin monkey is now set to star in Y: The Last Man, a Brian K. Vaughn comic book adapted for TV, coming soon on FX. According to the Hollywood Reporter, when FX CEO John Landgraf reviewed clips of the adaptation of Brian K. Vaughan’s Y: The Last Man, he immediately recognized Marcel from his days when he was an NBC exec.

“There's nothing like a really experienced actor who knows how to hit their marks!” said Landgraf, beaming with pride and bragging about the "actor" that brings … well, diversity to the cast. “I recognize Jennifer Aniston, I recognize Courteney Cox and I recognize that monkey!"

"Y: The Last Man" centers on Keoghan’s Yorick Brown, the last surviving man on Earth. It is a post-apocalyptic science fiction comic series about a man who is trying to figure out why the male population has been wiped out and how to solve this dystopian crisis. His primate partner is Ampersand (played by Katie), the only other male mammal to have survived the plague. Katie, just so you know, is a female.

Katie, now possibly in her late 20s (Capuchin monkeys in captivity can live to around 50 years), will be enjoying this mature transition from a role that showed her humping things and pooping in shoes to a seasoned actor fighting post-apocalyptic villains, humping things, and pooping in shoes. I just hope there is one more time we see her fall asleep to "The Lion Sleeps Tonight.”
