The famous railway is opening in May after closing for refurbishment in 2017.
It's official: The Pikes Peak Cog Railway is reopening next month after a nearly 4-year renovation, just in time for summer tourism. Tickets are already available to start chugging along America's Mountain.
The railway closed in October 2017 for a $100 million renovation, including refurbishing the tracks, cogs, and railcars. A new depot welcomes visitors, enhancing the experience. Built in 1891, the Pikes Peak Cog Railway is America's highest railroad and the world's highest cog railway.
When the railway first closed almost 4 years ago, its future was uncertain. The outdated infrastructure needed a complete overhaul, so the Broadmoor launched a study on what was required to overhaul the system. Fortunately, it worked in everyone's favor, and we can't wait to ride the cog railway again!
Not only will visitors be enjoying a brand-new depot and updated railcars, but the Pikes Peak summit will bring an all-new experience. The new Pikes Peak Visitor Center will open this summer and offer new menu options (the high-altitude donuts are on there, of course!), environmentally sustainable architecture, and ever-amazing views from the top of the mountain.
The Pikes Peak Cog Railway is opening a month before its 130th anniversary on June 30. On that day, the Broadmoor and the new Pikes Peak Visitor Center will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at the summit.
Tickets for the railway are on sale now. The standard admission is $58 for adults and $48 for riders 12 and under if purchased online. Tickets at the window cost $59.50, but advance tickets are recommended to get your preferred dates. Purchase your tickets here.
