According to one Boston organization, democracy is not healthy in Massachusetts. Partners in Democracy's 2024 scorecard reports that the commonwealth is 50th in the country for state legislature effectiveness and competitiveness in elections. Massachusetts also ranks 21st in the country for the gap between the state's population of people of color and representatives of color in the state legislature. Voter turnout is another issue: almost 150,000 fewer people voted in this year's presidential election compared to 2020's race. John Griffin is a managing partner for Partners in Democracy and joins Radio Boston to break down the challenges to democracy in Massachusetts.
