This unique film festival showcases short, awe-inspiring, outdoor adventure and wildlife movies that capture the wonders of mother nature at her best.

Touted as a "Festival by Activists for Activists," The Wild and Scenic Film Festival is a great opportunity for local residents to enjoy nature films while also learning about global environmental issues. Sponsored by Friends of the Rappahannock, the festival will be held over two weekends.

WEEKEND No. 1 SHOWING

WHEN: Saturday, March 24 | 3 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. WHERE: Rappahannock High School | Warsaw TICKETS: Adults are $10 in advance; $15 at the door | Children and students (with ID) are FREE

WEEKEND No. 2 SHOWING

WHEN: Saturday, March 31 | 6:30 p.m. – 9 p.m. WHERE: University of Mary Washington’s Dodd Auditorium | Fredericksburg TICKETS: Adults are $10 in advance; $15 at the door | Children and students (with ID) are FREE Since 2004, the film festival has been a touring event, brought to small communities by localized environmental groups. By doing this in Virginia, the Friends of the Rappahannock is also helping to educate the public and show award-winning films for those who are unable to attend the yearly national festival held in Nevada City, California in January (which includes a much larger lineup, including wine tastings, art shows, and an awards ceremony). While the Wild and Scenic Film Festival is the largest of its kind in the nation, the Friends of the Rappahannock’s showings will be miniaturized versions of the main event, simply providing interested Virginians with the opportunity to view good films.
