The vast majority of Shawnee County service establishments inspected last month passed their food safety and lodging inspections.

The Kansas Department of Agriculture has the authority to regulate food establishments, food processing plants and lodging establishments . State records show that 32 of the 41 total Topeka area service establishments inspected in January passed with either no violations or only relatively minor ones. Four didn't pass .

Most inspections were routine, but inspectors also visited after complaints, for licensing, follow-ups and other reasons.
