If you're looking to visit one of America's best small towns, try Connecticut.

Travel Curator , a travel and hospitality website, published an article this year about the 35 best small towns to visit in the United States, and one Connecticut town was listed on there.

"Small towns are also often a great way to immerse yourself in the larger destination itself (don’t get us wrong, we love big cities, too) because the allure of the small town can range from farmer’s markets, local artisans, charming places to stay, independent restaurants, and wonderful downtown shopping districts," the article said.

Mystic, of "Mystic Pizza" fame with its many tourist attractions and historic downtown, made the cut.

Is Mystic CT worth visiting?

Travel Curator pointed to Mystic's charm as a reason to visit.

"Discover the rich maritime history, famous aquarium, historic landmarks, and unique shopping and dining of the charming coastal town of Mystic, Connecticut," the Mystic entry said.

The Mystic Seaport and the Mystic Aquarium are the two highlights of the town. The seaport itself is special because it hosts the Mystic Seaport Museum . The museum features a recreation of a New England coastal village and a functional shipyard.

The aquarium in Mystic is notable because it holds the only beluga whales in New England, and it is one of the two facilities in the country to hold Stellar sea lions .

Beyond the two big attractions, the downtown is worth a stroll, with plenty of restaurants by the water - including one that just won a James Beard award.
