A new breakfast eatery is coming to the capital city. Yolk House, 2841 S.E. Croco Road, will offer American breakfast food with a mix of Mexican options as well. The location was the former home of Norsemen Lakeheim Taproom & Restaurant. Owner Rene Garcia said he wanted to do something a little different for the community. Garcia and his wife, Cheryl, also own Amigo's Topeka Mexican Restaurant, 5145 S.W. Topeka Blvd. "I've been looking at this building for a while, before it was even a restaurant," Garcia said. "I looked at the building, but yeah, back then they didn't really want it to be a Mexican restaurant."
Bringing more breakfast options to southeast Topeka
Bringing something new to the southeast side of Topeka was always the goal for the Garcias.

There's also a lot of neighborhoods and families, so we just felt like there was a need for this area. "Because most people, I think, tend to go out to Wanamaker or the west side for different eating options because that's where they all tend to be." The Yolk House menu will include such classic breakfast items as eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes, waffles and more. The Garcias said Mexican breakfast items will include breakfast burritos, tacos, quesadillas and more. Customers can also expect mimosas, margaritas and all-natural shakes. Rene Garcia has built new booths for the restaurant. The couple said the restaurant will have more of a "warm and cozy" setting opposed to the open floor plan it had before.
Ownership of two restaurants expected to be easy
As the owners of two restaurants, the couple said multitasking and balancing both should be easy with the help of management. "We'll be at both. We're going to toggle between both since the Yolk House is a little bit more closer to our home, said Cheryl Garcia. "We're going to try to be there as much as possible, especially Rene." Rene Garcia said the main thing he's learned as a business owner that will help him balance the restaurants is not being stressed about situations. "I'm not able to plan my day or vacation because we always get a new phone call," Garcia said. He said there's always something new that needs to be handled, so it's helped him learning to remain calm when problems arise. "We can't really have a set schedule when running your own business — I think a lot of people would agree to that," Cheryl Garcia said. "You just kind of have to go with it day by day."
When will Yolk House open?
The couple said Yolk House will open in February on a date to be determined. Right now, the couple is handling such maintenance-related items as painting and cleaning. The couple anticipates the restaurant being open all day.
