The ride-share app joins with the Washington Regional Alcohol Program.

It's St. Patrick's Day—how are you celebrating? For some, that might look like celebrating like the Irish, with an evening at your local Irish pub or bar. (Fun fact: According to Total Wine & More, Christians temporarily removed Lenten food and alcohol restrictions to celebrate Saint Patrick himself on the anniversary of his death, "which is why drinking has become synonymous with the holiday.") If that's how you celebrate, then the Washington Regional Alcohol Program (WRAP) and Lyft have a St. Patty's Day present for you!

Today, at 3 p.m. ET, WRAP will release a $15 off St. Patrick’s Day SoberRide® Promo Code, which users can enter in the Lyft app's "Promo" section. The code is good for "one ride taken home in the Washington D.C. coverage area." Unfortunately, the code is only valid for the first 1,500 Lyft passengers, so hurry to www.soberride.com to claim yours!

The code is valid from 4:00 p.m. today, March 17, 2021, to 2:00 a.m. tomorrow, March 18, 2021, so you'll have plenty of time to get your St. Patty's Day on.

Over the 2019 St. Patrick's Day weekend, according to the U.S. Department of Transportation’s National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), "63 percent of crash-related fatalities involved a drunk driver." And, in fact, according to WFXR, "from 2015 to 2019, a total of 280 lives were lost in drunk-driving crashes during the St. Patrick’s Day period nationwide, officials say. The Virginia DMV also reported 140 alcohol-related crashes, 60 injuries, and two preventable deaths during St. Patrick’s Day weekend in 2020."

Don't let this fun holiday end in a wreck, or worse—let Lyft and WRAP's SoberRide® program help you get home safely. (And watch for them on other major holiday events—so everyone can enjoy the holidays!)
