For a tiny city, the Crystal City of Upstate New York sure has a big heart for the arts.

Corning boasts one of the best small town cultural scenes in the United States, according to USA Today’s 10Best . The Southern Tier city was voted No. 5 in the travel website’s new ranking alongside communities like Ruidoso, New Mexico and Ocean Springs, Mississippi.

In a separate 10Best contest , Corning’s Centerway Square was voted the ninth-best public square in the nation.

The riverside city’s impressive reputation for artistry, craftsmanship and world-class museums earned Corning a prime spot on 10Best’s ranking.

Corning is home to Corning Incorporated, the famous glassmaker, and its eponymous museum, the Corning Museum of Glass. Glassblowing is deeply embedded in the city’s DNA — so much so that the city’s artsy downtown business district has been named Gaffer, the name for a master glassblower.

The Corning Museum of Glass is an undisputed gem. Guests can explore glittering glass exhibits, watch glassblowers in action and even give glassmaking a try.

But as 10Best pointed out in its list, the glass museum isn’t the only great museum in Corning.

The city is also home to The Rockwell Museum, a Smithsonian affiliate in Corning’s old City Hall that showcases American art.

“The Rockwell Museum has earned abundant acclaim thanks to its collection of historic American paintings, statues, and other works,” 10Best wrote in its ranking.

For those seeking out a strong dose of culture, Corning’s Gaffer District is worth a stop.

The downtown stretch is dotted with eclectic shops and eateries, including the Butcher’s Son , which just won the New York Beef Council’s Best NY Burger competition.

This is far from the first time charming Corning has earned praise.

Corning was previously named one of the best Christmas towns in the nation by Country Living. Williams Toyota Wineglass 5K, part of the city’s award-winning Wineglass Race Series, was recently named the fifth-best 3.1- NY as the fifth best 3.1-mile run in the U.S.
