The third installment of the Thor franchise continues Marvel’s trek into mixing superhero action with stellar comedic timing

“Even if you had two eyes, you’d still only see half the picture.”

Directed by Taika Waititi and with the all-star cast of Chris Hemsworth, Tom Hiddleston, Idris Elba, Thor: Ragnarok is arguably the best film in the franchise yet. The God of Thunder surely brings the thunder. Imprisoned on the other side of the universe, Thor (Chris Hemsworth) finds himself, without his trusty hammer. Thor finds himself in a battle to defeat Ragnarok and his long-lost evil sister Hela (Cate Blanchett) from destroying his home planet of Asgard. He is joined by fellow Avenger, Hulk (Mark Ruffalo), his trickster brother Loki (Tom Hiddleston) and the powerful Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson). Along with another surprise cameo that I won’t spoil here. While clearly marketed as an action movie, the heart of this film is clearly found in the humorous moments. These moments are through the actor’s comedic timing and laugh out loud jokes that are almost in the realm of an oddball comedy. Marvel seems to be trying to continue the trend that Guardians of the Galaxy sets with comedy that seems organic, not forced. Along with the humor, yes, Thor is a part of an action franchise. The third installment succeeds with that as well. Cinematic special effects and heart-pounding music fill the battles scenes.  Those sequences bounce off the screen. While color is also an important element of those action sequences, it is present throughout the entire film. The visuals are stylish and vibrant and give the film almost a funky, psychedelic tone. I think what makes this movie stand out from all the rest is that it doesn’t take itself too seriously, which is a problem with some of the superhero films out there. So if you are looking for a fun movie for your friends and family, this is a treat. You don’t have to be a superhero or Marvel superfan to follow along.   Did you see Thor: Ragnarok? If so, what did you think of the film? Did it get you excited for the next Marvel installments (Black Panther & Avengers 3)? Let us know what you think in the comments below.
