The Quicken Loans National golf tournament hosted by Tiger Woods is back. Come out June 29 to July 2, and see the world’s best players in action.
The Quicken Loans National will once again be held in the state of Maryland at the Tournament Players Club of Potomac. The Tiger Woods-hosted tournament draws many of the world’s best players and is held each year, right in-between two of golf’s “majors” -- the U.S. Open in June and the British Open in late July. When the first Quicken Loans National was held in 2007, Congressional Country Club hosted the event. It has since been moved around a bit; in 2015, Robert Trent Jones Golf Club in Gainesville, Virginia hosted and Aronomik Golf Club in Pennsylvania was the host venue in 2010 and 2011. The 2017 Quicken Loans National will be the first time TPC Potomac has hosted the event. The news of Tiger Woods’ recent DUI arrest and the fact that he has entered a rehab facility has made it unclear if the star will be in attendance. It is clear, however, that Woods will not be playing in his own event, which he won in 2012. The Quicken Loans is an invitational event, meaning that only the top ranked players are granted entry into the tournament. This is good news for D.C. golf and sports fans as the field is certain to draw many big-name players and young rising stars. Past winners include Tiger Woods, K.J. Choi, Anthony Kim, Bill Haas and Olympic Golf gold medal winner and U.S. Open winner Justin Rose. Defending champion is Billy Hurley, who will need to secure his title.
The field has not yet been finalized, but fans can expect to see players such as Rickie Fowler, Phil Mickelson and Matt Kuchar, as well as many other great players as they attempt to prepare for the season’s third major.
