My grandma made this tea mix every year. Maybe your grandma did, too.

The temperatures are dropping outside, and I'm just plain nostalgic today. I have a craving for my grandma's spiced tea. I've heard it called Russian Tea or even Spiced Tea With Tang. Whatever you call it, it's delicious fall in a cup.

I love the versatility of this recipe. Make a batch of the mix to store in your own pantry, and make a second batch to give as a gift to a neighbor. It stores well in an airtight container to last the entire fall and winter seasons.

Spiced Russian Tea With Tang Recipe:

Preparation Time: 15 minutes

Ingredients

  • 1 c. Tang
  • 2/3 c. instant tea
  • 2 pkg. (or 2 measuring scoops) instant lemonade
  • 1/2 c. sugar
  • 1/2 t. ground cloves
  • 1 T. ground cinnamon
  • Cinnamon sticks (optional)

Instructions

  1. Combine the first six ingredients in a medium bowl and store in an airtight container. Mix well and be sure the powered ingredients are incorporated throughout.
  2. To serve, use 2-3 teaspoons of mix per 1 cup of hot water. If you desire, add a cinnamon stick to your mug.

General Foods Corporation developed the orange-flavored drink mix, Tang, in 1959. The concept was to combine the mix with water for an orange-flavored beverage. Tang didn't initially sell well at all. Due to its versatility, NASA began using Tang on space missions.
