Columbia Museum of Art: Evening for Educators



What: Educators from across the state are invited to join the Columbia Museum of Art for an evening of art, wine and bites as they enjoy a sneak preview of new featured exhibitions. Curator Sadé Ayorinde discusses contemporary Black artists and their varied approaches to abstraction. Educators are invited to explore the galleries, learn about tours and try out lesson plan materials focusing on the new exhibitions.

City Art: New exhibit by Tony Scully — opening reception



What: City Art is announcing its new Tony Scully exhibit in its main gallery space, which will be running May 22 to Sept. 6. Scully has published three books of poetry and for many years has been a monthly columnist for Camden’s Chronicle-Independent. As a painter, Scully painted portraits on commission for many years, but has recently begun showing his work.

What: Join Trustus Theatre for an evening of thought-provoking dialogue and spiritual insight as "A Case for the Existence of God" comes to Columbia. This compelling live event explores deep philosophical and theological questions through engaging storytelling and reasoned argument. Book Launch Party with Ed Madden: "Arkansas Luggage"



What: Join Columbia's former poet laureate for a launch party at All Good Books. An introduction will be given by poet Ray McManus, followed by a short reading and snacks. In "Arkansas Luggage," a heady mixture of essay and poetry, Ed Madden travels between his native Arkansas and Ireland while examining the baggage of his own upbringing as a gay man.

Flatland Express at Bill's Music Shop & Pickin' Parlor

Palmetto Concert Band



What: Professional and semi-professional musicians from throughout South Carolina choose to play with the ensemble and will be performing repertoire composed or transcribed for the wind band. This performance, honoring members of the U.S. Armed Forces, is at Koger Center for the Arts. Free and open to the public.
