On Tuesday, November 28, a groundbreaking ceremony was held at the future home of Maryland House Detox -- the facility will be the state’s first standalone detox center.

Amid the nationwide opioid crisis and a 20 percent rise in drug and alcohol overdoses during the last year in Maryland, Delphi Behavioral Health Group held a groundbreaking ceremony for the Maryland House Detox, which will open next year. The groundbreaking ceremony, held in Linthicum at the former site of Hospice of the Chesapeake, head of Governor Larry Hogan’s Opioid Operational Command Center Clay Stamp, DEA special agent Don Hibbert, Anne Arundel County Executive Steve Schuh and other government officials came out in full support of the future facility.
When the standalone detox in-patient center opens in March, it will house 16 detoxification beds and make detox and the initiation of rehabilitation treatment readily available to those addicted to opioids and other highly addictive and harmful substances. What makes Maryland House Detox different is that addicts will basically be able to walk into the facility to detox, stay an average of five to eight days before transitioning into rehab programs and clinics. Many non-standalone clinics typically will only make beds available 30 days after treatment has begun. Maryland House Detox will allow those addicted to opioids to receive urgently needed treatment quickly via a “warm transition,” which in turn will help addicts from relapsing while waiting to get help. The two-million-dollar facility will take in between 80 and 100 patients per month, and after one year of being in operation, is expected to admit patients twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Maryland Detox House will be located at 817 South Camp Mead Road in Linthicum.
