This 4th of July, restrictions on personal fireworks are fairly tight, so before you ignite, you should know where fireworks are legal (and illegal) in Colorado.

Before we dive in, though, keep in mind that any firework that leaves the ground is illegal in the state of Colorado. So if you are going to celebrate Independence Day with friends and family, make sure you are doing so in a safe and legal way. We've already given you the lowdown on where you can watch professional fireworks in Colorado, but if you're wanting to have little fireworks celebrations of your own, well, you've come to the right place!

Below is a list of where fireworks are legal in Colorado. If your area has not been listed, please contact your city or county officials directly.

Adams County (Unincorporated)

Illegal: cherry bombs, Roman candles, firecrackers, bottle rockets, shells, rockets, M-80s and M-100s, and helicopters.
Legal: cylindrical or cone fountains, wheel and ground spinners, illuminating torches and colored fire, dipped sticks and sparklers, toy propellant or toy smoke devices, trick noisemakers, and snakes or glow worms.

Arapahoe County (Unincorporated)

Illegal: Fireworks that explode or leave the ground, including firecrackers, bottle rockets, mortars, ladyfingers, and Roman candles.
Legal: Fountains, wheels, sparklers, snakes, and ground spinners.

Arvada

Illegal: Possession and use of any and all fireworks, including sparklers.

Aurora

Illegal: Sale, possession, and use of fireworks that leave the ground, including firecrackers, bottle rockets, ladyfingers, mortars, and Roman candles.
Legal: Fountains, wheels, sparklers, snakes, and ground spinners.

Boulder

Illegal: Fireworks that explode or leave the ground.

Brighton

Illegal: Fireworks that fly through the air, explode, or emit projectiles, including firecrackers, bottle rockets, ladyfingers, cherry bombs, and Roman candles.
Legal: Fountains, ground spinners (some crackle and pop), smoke bombs, sparklers, small toy cars/tanks with pyrotechnics, and glow worms.

Broomfield

Legal: Sparklers, trick matches, cigarette loads, trick noisemakers, toy smoke devices, and novelty auto alarms.

Castle Rock

Illegal: Fireworks that explode, break off into pieces, or leave the ground.
Legal: Fireworks purchased at stands in Castle Rock, only on July 4.

Centennial

Illegal: Fireworks that explode, break off into pieces, or leave the ground.
Legal: Sparklers, cones, snakes, and fountains.

Colorado Springs

Illegal: Fireworks with a fuse and/or require a flame for ignition.
Legal: Snappers and poppers (novelty items).

Commerce City

Illegal: Sale, possession, and use of any and all fireworks, including sparklers.

Denver

Illegal: Fireworks with a fuse and/or require a flame for ignition.

Douglas County (Unincorporated)

Legal: Sparklers, trick matches, cigarette loads, trick noisemakers, toy smoke devices, and novelty auto alarms.

Elbert County (Unincorporated)

Illegal: Fireworks that leave the ground.

El Paso County (Unincorporated)

Illegal: Fireworks that explode, break off into pieces, or leave the ground.

Evans

Illegal: Fireworks that leave the ground.
Legal: Sparklers, trick matches, noisemakers, and glow worms.

Fort Collins

Illegal: Sale, possession, and use of any and all fireworks.

Golden

Illegal: Sale, possession, and use of any and all fireworks.

Greeley

Illegal: Fireworks that explode or leave the ground.
Legal: Cylindrical fountains, cone fountains, wheels, ground spinners, illuminating torches, dipped sticks and sparklers, snake or glow worms.

Jefferson County (Unincorporated)

Illegal: Cherry bombs, Roman candles, firecrackers, bottle rockets, shells and rockets, M-80s, M-100s, and helicopters.
Legal: Cylindrical or cone fountains, wheels and ground spinners, illuminating torches and colored fire, dipped sticks and sparklers, toy propellant or toy smoke devices, trick noisemakers, and snakes, and glow worms.

Lafayette

Illegal: Sale, possession, and use of any and all fireworks.

Lakewood

Illegal: Sale, possession, and use of any and all fireworks.

Littleton

Illegal: Sale, possession, and use of any and all fireworks.

Lone Tree

Illegal: Fireworks that explode or leave the ground.
Legal: Fountains, wheels, spinners, illuminating torches, dipped sticks, sparklers, snakes, and glow worms.

Loveland

Illegal: Sale and use of any fireworks that leave the ground.
Legal: Sparklers, fountains, smoke balls, items with crackle or strobe effects, wheels and spinners, and various novelty items.

Northglenn

Illegal: Sale, possession, and use of any and all fireworks.

Parker

Illegal: Fireworks that explode or leave the ground.
Legal: Fountains, wheels, spinners, illuminating torches, dipped sticks, sparklers, snakes, and glow worms.

Pueblo

Illegal: Fireworks that light, leave the ground, or explode.
Legal: Class C fireworks, including sparklers and fountains.

Thornton

Illegal: Sale, possession, and use of any and all fireworks.
Legal: Snappers and poppers (novelty items).

Westminster

Illegal: Fireworks that emit a loud bang, leave the ground, or explode.
Legal: Sparklers, fountains, ground spinners, illuminated torches, and dipped sticks.

Wheat Ridge

Illegal: Sale, possession, and use of any and all fireworks.
