The Silverton girls' basketball team maintained the upper hand down the stretch to hold off West Albany 63-58 in the night’s final quarterfinal game at Linfield University on Wednesday night.

Trailing by as many as eight early in the second half, the Foxes finished the third quarter on a 19-5 run. Silverton edged in front on Allie Mansur’s 3-pointer and opened up a 45-37 lead after Grace Hayashida converted a layup in the paint.

Silverton stayed a step ahead throughout the fourth quarter, sealing the victory by combining to go 5-for-6 at the free-throw line over the game’s final minute.

Hadley Craig led the Foxes with 19 points, while Hayashida and Mansur added 12 points apiece. West Albany’s Payton Starwalt scored a game-high 30 points.

In the night’s other 5A semifinal, No. 3 South Albany rolled to a 59-36 quarterfinal win over Springfield. Taylor Donaldson finished with a game-high 35 points on 7 of 11 (63.6%) shooting from 3-point range.

The Redhawks put the game away by outscoring Springfield 17-2 in the second quarter.

Ikunaday Filipe led the Millers with 11 points.

South Albany takes on Silverton in the 5A semifinals at 3:15 p.m. Friday at Linfield.

At the 6A tournament at the Chiles Center, Tualatin scored a 47-37 win over South Medford, gaining control of the game by holding the Panthers to only two points in the second quarter.

The Timberwolves built a 14-point lead early in the fourth quarter when Love Best and Jordyn Smith hit back-to-back buckets.

Best led Tualatin with 15 points, while Smith finished with 14. South Medford’s Dyllyn Howell scored a game-high 19.

No. 2 seed Willamette rolled to a 66-42 win over Southridge in the night’s final game. The Wolverines broke the game open in the second half, outscoring the Skyhawks 32-12 over the final 16 minutes.

Willamette’s Diamond Wright finished with a game-high 25 points, while teammate Brynn Smith added 19.

Sara Mangan led Southridge with 23 points.

Willamette takes on Tualatin in the 6A semifinals at 3:15 p.m. Friday at Chiles Center.
