TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Topeka man has been accused of defrauding the federal government.

According to the United States Department of Justice, 48-year-old farmer Steven W. Porubsky has been charged with one count of conversion of mortgaged collateral.

A Department of Justice spokesperson stated that Porubsky is accused of intentionally defrauding the Farm Service Agency, which is related to the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA). It was stated that Porubsky allegedly converted his own use agricultural products that were mortgaged to the USDA.

The USDA is investigating this case. Assistant U.S. Attorney Lindsey Debenham is prosecuting the case.
