TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) - A Shawnee County murder trial was paused Tuesday after the defendant agreed to plea terms. The Shawnee Co. District Attorney’s Office says Devonta Miller’s trial in connection to the death of Kristy Ann-Rodriguez started Monday, March 3. It was paused when Miller pleaded guilty to first-degree murder, attempted murder, and aggravated battery. Miller will be sentenced April 14, 2025. The charges stem from the March 26, 2021, killing of Ann-Rodriguez . Topeka Police officers found her shot and killed that night in the 3100 block of SE Bryant St. Miller was one of two suspects charged in Ann-Rodriguez’s killing. Harlee Borders was given a life sentence after pleading guilty to the same charges in addition to aggravated kidnapping and child endangerment.
