A Topeka man was hospitalized locally after a crash on the Kansas Turnpike near Emporia on Saturday. The crash happened shortly before 10 am at mile marker 140.6 northbound, nearly 14 miles northeast of the Emporia gate and about six miles southwest of the Admire gate. The Kansas Highway Patrol says 21-year-old Camden Barta was northbound and in the outside lane when his car left the highway to the right. The car then hit a fence before going into a ditch. Barta was taken to Newman Regional Health for suspected serious injuries, according to the Highway Patrol crash log. He was not wearing his seatbelt at the time of the wreck. A reported injury crash is under investigation in northeast Lyon County. The Kansas Highway Patrol and Emporia/Lyon County EMS responded to the crash site, mile marker 141 northbound, around 10 am.
